What are fun things for kids to do
Are there fun things to do with kids?
There are plenty of fun things to do with kids, both inside and outside! When your kids get home after a long day of school, or when the bell finally rings for summer vacation, your kids are sure to wonder what’s next. And, when then do, you’ll be wondering what things you can come up with to keep them entertained. Rather than run to the television or grab your iPad, here is a list of fun things to do with kids! Hopefully, this list will keep you from hearing “I’m bored” or “I’ve got nothing to do”.
Fun things to do with kids outside:
- Ride bikes or roller skates.
Do you have any bikes or roller skates or rollerblades hanging up in your garage? Grab your favorite riding toys and go play together. You might want to do a few family relay races or even ride to your favorite coffee shop for an afternoon pick-me-up.
- Turn your backyard into a water park.
You can make a do-it-yourself version of the slip n’ slide or grab one that’s already in your garage. Either way, you’ll have fun turning your very own backyard into your new favorite water park.
- Take a hike.
Are there any mountains nearby? How about any trails that you’ve been wanting to explore? Do you live near a national park with nature programs and interactive workshops for your kids? You can take advantage of an afternoon off by crossing one of these places of your list.
- Head to the beach or the pool to go swimming.
Is there a lake or beach nearby? Do you have access to a neighborhood pool or another safe body of water? It might be fun to gather your family up in the car, grab water bottles, snacks, and towels, and take your family out for a swim!
- Teach your kids how to garden.
Your kids can learn what it means to garden and how to care for plants while they’re soaking up a little bit of Vitamin D!
- Start a water balloon fight.
You can fill up balloons with water, or grab a bunch of squirt guns, and start a water balloon fight in your backyard. While everyone is running around having fun, you might decide that the hose is fair game to use as well!
- Start your kids on a scavenger hunt.
If you search for “scavenger hunt”, you’ll find tons of options and ideas to get you started. If you want your hunt to be a bit more personal for your family, you can always create a scavenger hunt that leads your kids to different places that mean something to you as a family.
- Jump rope.
Grab a jump rope or hula hoop and press play on your favorite music playlist. Turn it into a game by seeing who in your family can hula hoop or jump rope the longest without stopping!
- Decorate your driveway with chalk!
You can go to the Dollar Store to buy a few different colors of chalk and turn your driveway into a life-size coloring book for your kids. Pavement chalk will wash off, plus it lets your kids delve into their imagination!
Fun things to do with kids indoor:
When you get tired of being inside, or during those rainy days, you may be looking for a few indoor activities to do with your kids. Here are a couple of ideas!
- Visit a laser maze.
Many laser mazes require your kids to have accuracy and speed, because your child is challenged to move through lasers and get back to his or her starting point without being detected. This is a fun way to get out of the house and get your children exercise.
- Find an arcade.
Your kids get play a few of their favorite games and win stuff that they’ll love (that just might keep them entertained for even longer)!
- Visit a play area nearby.
Your kids can play in safe environment, while getting exercise, in a soft play or toddler area such as this one. Your kids can climb walls, slide down slides, and/or jump on trampolines.
- Start a dance party in your kitchen.
Put on your favorite songs and start dancing in the kitchen!
- Finish a puzzle.
Is there a puzzle sitting in your closet? Or a game that your family has been wanting to play? Maybe Yahtzee, Monopoly, or Clue? Grab your favorite puzzles or board games from the closet and get the whole family involved!
- Write (and star in) your own movie.
Have your kids get together and come up with their own idea for a short movie. Once they’re done, they can write the script, dress us up as the characters, and perform their movie for you!
As you can tell, there are lots of fun things to do with kids to keep them entertained after school or during summer vacation. Have fun and explore what sounds the most fun to you!
